Sport fishing in La Thuile
Recreational fishing in La Thuile, as throughout the Aosta Valley, is a time-honoured tradition and a pursuit for those who truly appreciate the challenge of engaging with nature in its most raw and elusive form.
Fishing in La Thuile means venturing up 2,278 metres to Lake Longet, located at the foot of Mont Valesan in French territory in the municipality of Seez. Here, brown trout and char regain their strength and vitality in waters so invigorating they could rejuvenate even salmon swimming upstream, not to mention the native fish. These fish, unsurprisingly, are determined to put up a fierce fight. They're waiting for you, not just to be caught, but to test your patience, endurance and ability to push beyond your limits – much like a challenging trek. After all, they are as wild as the rugged side of Mont Blanc where they reside!
To reach the lake, you can park near the Little St. Bernard Pass and take a short hike – about 30 minutes with a 130-metre elevation gain.

Open water fishing in La Thuile
For river fishing, we recommend the Dora del Rutor and Dora del Verney, both renowned for their populations of brown trout and rainbow trout. Fishing is allowed from June to September, using fly, spinning and spoon techniques. In La Thuile's Dora, particularly in the La Balme area, there's a designated "no kill" section of the river where it is mandatory to release any fish caught and to use barbless hooks.
